In order to join our domiciliary team as a carer, you need to be a car owner. Don’t worry if you have no previous experience, just a kind approach and sense of humour is all you need to start with and we will support you with all the training you will need.

  • How do I contact you?

    Call us, email us your CV, message us on social media, and we will get in touch.


  • Will I need an interview?

    Yes, you will be invited into one of our offices by our friendly team.

  • Do I need to fill out paperwork?

    Yes, there is an application form on our website or you can request an application form to be emailed to you.  You can arrange to come to our offices and complete your application form with our staff.

  • Do I need a police check?

    All Christchurch Care employees undergo a police check (DBS).  You can not commence work until we have your DBS number.

  • How long does a DBS application take?

    We will contact you with a date and time to carry out a DBS check.  You should allow an hour for the process.   

  • How long before I receive the DBS?

    We can check the progress of your DBS and will let you know when it has been posted to you.  This can be as fast as a couple of days or much longer during holiday seasons and if you have lived out of the county in the past six years.

  • Can you help me make my new DBS portable?

    Yes, we actively encourage all our staff to maintain a portable DBS.  We will request your permission to carry out an annual portability check.   

  • Do you accept portable DBS for new staff?

    Absolutely! We need to verify the portability, with your permission.


  • Do you provide uniforms?

    Yes, we have various colours and types of uniforms, according to your job role.  All our uniforms have unique logo.  

  • Will I need a name badge?

    All our staff wear Christchurch Care lanyards with a photographic identification badge.


  • When will I be able to start work?

    Once we have received your DBS number or portability check and 2 written references, one of whom must be your most recent employer. 

  • Do I need previous experience?

    No.  All new staff undertake shadow shifts with our lovely team, until they feel confident to work alone.  All new staff receive training in line with the Care Certificate which we expect you to complete in 3 months, if you are working full time.

  • How will I do my training?

    You will do some self-directed learning online and attend our offices for in-house and practical training.

  • Can I do specialist training?

    Absolutely!  We run lots of courses and we will support you to fulfil your aspirations!


  • Do you give support with Social Care Diplomas?

    We give support with all levels of Social Care Diplomas.  We encourage our new staff to enrol for Level 2 Social Care Diploma on completion of the Care Certificate.

  • How will I get my rota?

    Rotas are digital and live on a Friday.  However, you will always know which days and times you will be working if you are permanently employed because we all work a 2-week set rota.  This means you will know which days you are working for the next twenty years!  


  • Can I change my fixed days?

    Yes, arrange to come and discuss with your line manager.  We may be able to do this immediately or ask you to be patient whilst we approach other staff to swap.

  • How many hours will I be working?

    This will be discussed at your interview so that we can ensure that we give you the shifts that are right for you.  

  • Can I work part time?

    Yes, you can, tell us at your interview.


  • Do you have a “bank team”?

    We operate a comprehensive bank team and will encourage you to contact us fortnightly with your upcoming availability for shifts.

  • What will I be doing on my first day?

    You will commence training and be taken out, by senior staff, to meet our clients.

  • Do I need to complete a time sheet?

    Yes, you will need to complete a time sheet every week and email it to Christchurch main office by 12.00 every Monday.  


  • When do I get paid?

    You will receive a payslip via email on a Monday.  You will be paid every Friday.

  • Do I get paid for shadow shifts?

    Yes, you are paid for all your shadow shifts.

  • When will I meet my colleagues?

    During your shadow shifts and at our monthly branch team meetings.


  • Do you have double up rotas?

    Yes, we have some rotas where staff work in pairs to support moving and handling needs.

  • Do I get paid annual leave and travel time?

    Yes.  We pay a fixed hourly rate throughout your shift.   If a call is cancelled, you will be diverted to another client or your break will be longer!

  • Do I get paid breaks?

    You get a paid break in the morning and afternoon, which show up on your rota.  If you work a “long day”, you will be allocated an extended lunch break of approximately 1.5 hours which is unpaid.  Staff can request much longer lunch breaks if they wish.   

  • Will I get dedicated travel time?

    Yes, our rotas match up our client post codes and calculate your travel time.

  • Will I get to know my clients?

    Our rota systems ensure continuity for our clients and staff.  

  • Do I get additional pay for bank holidays?

    All staff receive double weekday pay on bank holidays.  In addition, Christchurch Care pays double weekday pay on Christmas Eve.

  • Can I request to work a bank holiday, if it is not my usual day to work?

    Yes please!  We can’t promise, but we will try and find you some care calls.

  • What hours will I work Christmas week?

    You will work your usual rota, with greatly reduced hours.  The team hours are calculated fairly during the Christmas period.  We will accept offers of help from all staff.  The managers will be on duty with you during Christmas when the office is shut.

  • Is there pastoral support?

    Our friendly line managers are available for support in an emergency.  Each employee has access to an Employee Assistance Programme contact details.  This confidential phone line is manned 24 hours and can sign post you to getting support with health, money, worries, domestic abuse, child & dependent care and legal rights.


  • Do I need transport?

    All members of the home care team are required to have independent transport, with proof of business insurance.  Occasionally bike and walking rounds are facilitated during the warmer months.


  • Does Christchurch Care provide transport?

    We have company cars for emergency use, for example if your car is booked into the garage.  There is no charge for car usage or petrol during your working shifts, provided it is available.  You will need to be over 25 years old, own a UK driving licence and have no points on your licence.


  • Is there a home care night team?

    Yes there is.  Ask us about this when you visit the office.

  • Can I apply for a promotion?

    Yes, you can, we love to see our staff develop their careers in-house! 


    Team Leader:

    You will need two years of experience in domiciliary care (can be with another agency) and have level 3 in care well underway.  This is an ideal post for a confident and experienced employee to safely dip their toe into team management and providing staff support.

    Care Team Manager:

    Two years experience in domiciliary care and be willing to undertake Level 4 or 5 in Care.  An excellent role if you are aiming for senior management ultimately.

    Deputy Manager:

    Two years experience in care and level 3 or 4 in care.  You will be expected to enrol for Level 5 in care.  Your interview will be a two stage process.  Get you!  You may be aiming to be a Registered Manager with us!  We nurture all our deputy managers and support their career aspirations. They are not required to become Registered Managers, if they don’t want to be.

    Registered Manager:

    Two years domiciliary experience in domiciliary senior role and Level 5 diploma in social care.  Your interview will be a two stage process, during which time you will meet one of the Directors.  You will be confident and competent in regulatory compliance and meet the CQC requirements for Registered Managers.  You will be required to attend a CQC interview, usually by phone.
